SCOCO in Action!
Sustainable Contra Costa, along with the Contra Costa Master Gardeners, coordinated the first Contra Costa Home & Garden Challenge in May 2012. The goal was to inspire 350 collective Actions throughout Contra Costa (in one weekend) to grow food, save water, conserve energy, and build our community stronger, healthier, cleaner, and more resilient. The result – people throughout Contra Costa stepped up and registered 997 powerful actions in one weekend! Connect with us at info@sustainablecoco.org to create projects for your community and be counted in the next Home & Garden Challenge, this Spring!
If you would like to take action today, find ideas, rebates, and local resources to help you in our Action Guides. The Action Guides show you how to convert your thirsty lawn (or weeds) into a beautiful, drought-tolerant, and edible landscape, how to get rebates for saving water and thousands of dollars back for making your home more energy efficient. Learn about simple steps for healthy gardening, fantastic resources for managing pest without using pesticides, and many more ideas in our Action Guides!
Sustainability Advisors
SCOCO's Sustainability Advisors receive in-depth training on sustainable action steps and use their knowledge to educate businesses, schools, and citizens on adopting sustainable practices. Our goal is to stimulate demand for energy audits, energy- and water-efficient products and "sustainable" business services thereby increasing orders and sales and ultimately supporting jobs in the emerging green economy. If you would like to learn more about becoming a Sustainability Advisor, contact advisors@sustainablecoco.org.

We are collaborating with all types of organizations that contribute to the local food source: community gardens, native and drought tolerant gardens that help our 'pollenators', urban farmers, local farms, CSAs, co-op organic growers, fruit gleaners, farmer's markets, backyard farm circles, etc. Read more
