C.   Internship/Employment Goals
90% OF SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE SET GOALS
90% OF PEOPLE WHO FEEL THEY HAVE FAILED DID NOT SET GOALS.
1) Why Set Employment Goals
Goal setting is a very powerful technique that can yield strong returns when working with interns.
At its simplest level the process of setting goals allows the supervisor to choose work assignments/activities for the intern. By knowing precisely what the supervisor wants to achieve, he/she can discuss the goal with the intern so he/she knows what to concentrate on. Goal setting provides long-term vision and short-term motivation.
By setting sharp, clearly defined goals, the supervisor can measure them and the intern can take pride in the achievement of those goals.
By setting goals you can:
Achieve more
Improve performance
Improve self-confidence
Increase the motivation to achieve
Increase the pride and satisfaction in personal achievements
Eliminate attitudes that hold you back and cause unhappiness
Research has shown that people who use goal setting effectively:
suffer less from stress and anxiety
concentrate better
show more self-confidence
perform better
are happier and more satisfied
Goal setting techniques are used by top-level athletes, successful business people and high achievers in all fields.  Most of us have dreams of accomplishing great things – becoming an Olympic athlete, becoming a doctor, owning a successful business, or perhaps climbing a mountain.  But unless we make an intentional effort to fulfill our dreams, they will remain only dreams.  Goal setting, particularly if we write them down, begins the process of realizing our dreams.
