Resources for Transitional Age Youth at Risk
for Mental Health Disorders: PEI - Santa Barbara
Santa Barbara County Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Services (ADMHS) has developed a program for Prevention and Early Intervention for Transitional Age Youth. The program criteria focuses on those who are 16-25 who are experiencing their first psychotic break, have been diagnosed with a major mental illness (i.e. schizophrenia, bi-polar, major depressive disorder) within the past 12 months, or who are displaying some prodromal (early) symptoms that could be leading to a major and/or chronic mental illness. We provide services to the young person for 12 months which includes psychological interventions such as therapy and medication support services, psychoeducation for the young person and family to increase their understanding, and providing the young person support and connection with community resources toward their career and/or
education goals. Prevention involves identifying those who are dispalying the early symptoms. Intervention involves the program team assessing and planning specific interventions toward improving long term outcomes for those who are identified.
