About the Career Explorations Program Five Steps to Success! The Digital Safari Academy's Career Explorations Program is designed to develop and test innovative models for increasing student exposure to careers and career paths through enhanced interaction with businesses and employers. Step 1: College and Career Prep Activities The College Prep Activities help inform students about post-secondary education and prepare them to be ‘college ready’ whether or not they choose to pursue college immediately upon graduation. Read more ... Step 2: Career Preparation Workshops No student should graduate from high school without the skills required to succeed in the world of work. A carefully planned continuum of career development workshops from grades 9/10 through 12 will lead students to an understanding of 21st century workplace skills and the connections between academic achievement and earning a living. Step 3: Career Exploration Visits As part of the Career Academies Research Project, 11th grade students will participate in at least one Career Exploration Visit to a cooperating host company to introduce them to different types of settings where graduates within their career areas typically work. Read more ... Step 4: Personal Career Explorations A Personal Career Exploration consists of structured learning activities to be done before, during and after the experience. Students will spend a day (or portion) on the job at a host company working with a host employee. Through these explorations, students will expand awareness of jobs, careers, and work environments and make connections between what is learned at school and what is expected in the workplace. Step 5: Senior Internships An internship is a senior year experience during which a student spends an extended period of time (usually a semester) working with and learning from an adult in a local business or not-for-profit organization. By connecting what is learned in school with how it’s applied in the workplace, students see the relevance of their current high school academic coursework.
